Narrated by multi-award winning actor Michael Sheen, Shine On – The Forgotten Shining Location tells the story of how Stanley Kubrick took over Elstree Studios for a whole year whilst making his iconic film, The Shining. Now, nearly 50 years since its release, and all remanence of the Overlook Hotel’s sets thought to have been destroyed, one last filming site remains at the infamous studios.
1920 collaborated with director and producer Paul King to breathe life and colour into the map of Elstree Studios in the 1970s by highlighting the different sets with clips of The Shining that were projected onto 3D cinema scenes. We also seamlessly integrated a 3D facade of the iconic Overlook Hotel and employed dynamic camera movements to evoke the sensation of peering into a miniature set.
For the title sequence, we combined iconic scenes from the film and animated a camera to track through them, highlighting the 3D environments of the kitchen pantry and the mint-green bathroom to add depth and dimension to the visuals.
